IT support and security for healthcare practices

For clinics, specialist rooms and allied health practices, most of what we do is managed IT: keeping practice systems available, protecting patient information and making the admin side less manual.

Healthcare: where SyncBricks fits

Healthcare practices run on a small number of critical systems: the practice management software, clinical records, imaging or device software, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, and the network that ties them together. When any of them stops, appointments stop. Patient information also sits in all of them, which makes privacy and security part of everyday IT rather than a separate project.

SyncBricks works with practices mainly as a managed IT provider. We look after devices, accounts, backup, the network and the security baseline, and we work alongside the vendors of your clinical software rather than replacing them. Where admin is slowed down by re-keying between systems, we also help with process mapping and integration.

Where each service fits in a practice

Managed IT is usually the main need: devices, access, backup, network and security. ERP is rarely the right answer for a single clinic, because the practice management system already handles bookings and billing. Process and integration work helps groups with several sites, or practices where invoicing, payroll and accounts are kept in step by hand.

Common problems we see in healthcare

  • Shared logins and accounts that stay active after staff leave
  • Patient data spread across email, local folders and personal devices
  • Backups that exist but have never been restored as a test
  • Ageing reception and consulting room PCs that slow down appointments
  • Several vendors involved when something breaks, and nobody coordinating them
  • Privacy obligations under the Australian Privacy Principles and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme
  • Manual reconciliation between the practice system, Xero or MYOB and payroll

Managed IT

Managed IT for healthcare

Day-to-day support and security, delivered remotely and on site when needed.

Helpdesk and device management

Support for reception, clinical and admin staff, with PCs and laptops kept patched, encrypted and set up consistently.

Accounts and access

Individual logins, multi-factor authentication and a proper onboarding and offboarding process, so access matches who works at the practice today.

Backup and recovery

Backups of the practice database and files that are monitored and test-restored, so you know how long recovery would take before you need it.

Security baseline

Controls aligned with the Essential Eight, email protection and staff awareness, sized for a practice rather than a hospital.

Network and Wi-Fi

A separated network for clinical systems, guest Wi-Fi kept apart, and a firewall that is configured and looked after.

Vendor coordination

We deal with your practice software, phone and internet vendors on your behalf when something needs fixing or changing.

ERP and business processes

ERP and process work for healthcare

Process first, then system. We map how work flows before recommending software.

Admin process mapping

Map how bookings, billing, claims, payroll and month end actually run, and find where staff re-key the same information.

Accounting integration

Connect practice billing data to Xero or MYOB so revenue, payments and reconciliations are not keyed twice.

Multi-site groups

For groups with several practices, help decide whether consolidated finance, purchasing or stock needs a broader system.

How we usually start

  1. 01

    IT and security review

Devices, accounts, backup, network and how patient data is stored and shared.
  2. 02

    Fix the urgent gaps

Usually multi-factor authentication, offboarding, and proving the backup restores.
  3. 03

    Agree the ongoing service

What is covered by managed IT, what is project work, and how support requests reach us.
  4. 04

    Look at admin processes

Where it helps, map billing and month end and remove the double entry.

FAQ

Healthcare questions

Do you replace our practice management software?

No. We support the environment it runs in and work with the software vendor. Choosing or changing clinical software is a decision for the practice, and we can help with the IT side of a change if you make one.

Can you make us compliant with privacy law?

Compliance is the practice's responsibility, and we do not offer legal advice. What we do is put the technical controls in place that support your obligations, such as access control, encryption, backup and logging, and document them so you can show what is in place.

Do practices need an ERP?

Most single practices do not. The practice management system covers bookings and billing, and accounting software covers the books. A broader system is worth considering only for larger groups with shared finance, purchasing or stock across sites.

Can you support us on site?

Support is mostly delivered remotely, which is quicker for most issues. We arrange on-site work for installs, network changes and problems that need hands on the hardware.
