Microsoft 365 ERP integration

Microsoft 365 and ERP integration for sign-in, approvals, documents and reporting.

Microsoft 365 and your ERP

Most Australian businesses already work in Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and Excel. SyncBricks connects Microsoft 365 to ERPs such as ERPNext, Business Central and NetSuite so staff sign in with their work account, approve requests where they already are, store documents in SharePoint and report from live ERP data.

Microsoft 365 is the workplace suite used by a large share of Australian businesses, covering Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Excel and Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) for identity. Microsoft Graph provides one API across these services. Business Central integrates natively with much of Microsoft 365, and other ERPs can be connected through Graph and standard sign-in protocols.

Why integrate Microsoft 365 with your ERP

An ERP is used more consistently when it fits into the tools people already open every day. Single sign-on removes separate passwords, approvals in Outlook or Teams stop purchase orders waiting on someone who rarely logs in, and documents stored in SharePoint are easier to find and govern. These connections are usually small pieces of work that make the wider ERP process run better.

The design work sits inside our process mapping and ERP integration services: agree which system owns each record first, then build.

Integration patterns we build

Single sign-on with Entra ID

Staff sign in to the ERP with their Microsoft 365 account, and access is removed automatically when their account is disabled.

Approvals in Outlook and Teams

Purchase orders, bills, expense claims and leave requests that need approval send an actionable message to the approver, and the decision is written back to the ERP.

ERP documents in SharePoint

Supplier invoices, contracts, delivery dockets and project files attached in the ERP are stored in structured SharePoint libraries with the right permissions.

Reporting in Excel and Power BI

Read-only connections let finance and management report from ERP data in Excel or Power BI, instead of exporting and pasting each month.

How data moves

Events that start a sync

  • Document submitted for approval in the ERP
  • File attached to an ERP record
  • User joins or leaves in Entra ID
  • Scheduled report refresh
  • Supplier invoice received in a shared mailbox

Records created or updated

  • Send approval requests to Outlook or Teams
  • Record approval decisions in the ERP
  • Create folders and upload files to SharePoint
  • Provision or disable ERP users
  • Refresh Excel and Power BI datasets
  • Post notifications to a Teams channel

Who asks us for Microsoft 365 integration

  • Businesses moving to ERPNext or Business Central that already run on Microsoft 365.
  • Finance teams wanting purchase approvals that do not stall in the ERP inbox.
  • Organisations that need ERP documents governed in SharePoint.
  • Managers who report in Excel or Power BI and want live ERP data.

Access, credentials and audit trail

Integrations use Entra ID app registrations with least-privilege Microsoft Graph permissions and conditional access where it applies. Secrets and certificates are stored securely and rotated. SharePoint permissions follow your existing structure, and user provisioning is tied to Entra ID so leavers lose ERP access when their Microsoft 365 account is disabled. This work sits alongside our managed IT services.

FAQ

Microsoft 365 integration questions

Does Business Central integrate with Microsoft 365 better than other ERPs?

Business Central has built-in links to Outlook, Teams and Excel, which is one reason businesses on Microsoft 365 shortlist it. Other ERPs, including ERPNext and NetSuite, can still use Entra ID sign-in, Graph-based approvals and SharePoint storage, but those pieces are set up as part of the implementation rather than included as standard.

Can ERPNext use Microsoft 365 sign-in?

Yes. ERPNext supports sign-in through an OAuth or OpenID Connect provider, which can be Entra ID. We register the application, map users and roles, and set it up so staff use their existing Microsoft 365 account.

Do you manage the Microsoft 365 tenant as well?

We can. SyncBricks provides managed IT services, including Microsoft 365 administration and security, so identity, devices and the ERP integration can be looked after by one team. If you have another IT provider, we work with them on the changes the integration needs.
